‘A bingo craze swept Manitoba’: The $640K Kinsmen jackpot has been won

WINNIPEG — The bingo fever that that took over Manitoba has come to end.

Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo confirmed to CTV News Winnipeg that on Saturday someone won the $640,000 jackpot — the largest prize in the weekly game’s history.

“We stopped the game at 49 balls because we got caller or callers calling in for bingo,” said Raj Phangureh, who’s been running the bingo for ten years.

Phangureh said the jackpot has been growing since May 11, and that sales have steadily increased over time. The jackpot is comprised of $1 from every card sold, on top of an initial $10,000.

“With our jackpot at $640,000, I mean that would basically put our estimate at $630,000 cards sold in that time,” he said.

Phangureh said Kinsmen’s average is normally 6,000 cards sold in the summer and 9,000 in the winter, but this year’s sales got to the point where they couldn’t keep up with the demand for printing, supply and distribution.

“We were climbing to a regular sales amount like 10,000, 11,000 cards a week in September and climbing 10 per cent every week until we hit about 80,000 cards in January 18 and January 25,” he said.

In January, CTV News Winnipeg reported on people clamouring to get their hands on the cards, sold out almost everywhere.

Phangureh said he estimates the net sales were about $2 million and said they are going to try and find the best community causes to contribute the money to. In the past they’ve given to Winnipeg Harvest, The Dream Factory, Special Olympics Manitoba, and Agape Table.

“I think just a bingo craze swept Manitoba last week. It’s really been sweeping Manitoba, I think, the past I would say three months, if not a little bit longer,” he said.

The name of the winner will be released later in the week.

The bingo fever that that took over Manitoba has come to end.

Bingo: What are the Bingo Jackpots?

Just in case the usual house prizes don’t add enough buzz to bingo we offer further big jackpots for you to win.

These vary according to the type of game being played.

  • Fixed Jackpots
  • Progressive Jackpots
  • Progressive Slots
  • Jackpot Queries
  • Terms & Conditions

Fixed Jackpots
A fixed jackpot is always available to win, no matter how often it is won! To win, all you have to do is get full house in a specified number of balls or less.
In a pattern game the jackpot can only be claimed by a coverall win within the stipulated ball count. Patterns which are not coverall will not result in a jackpot win.
The fixed jackpot is split equally between all the winning tickets that meet the win criteria.
Your account will be automatically credited with your jackpot winnings shortly after the bingo game.
Please contact Customer Services if you do not receive your winnings.

Progressive Jackpots
These are the big ones. A progressive jackpot is initially funded at a set amount and each day at around midnight it increases based on ticket sales for the previous day. The more tickets bought in bingo the more the jackpot will grow! To win, get “full house” in a game of bingo in a specified number of balls or less and you will be notified of your win. The amount of the jackpots will be displayed on the bingo game screen. When a progressive jackpot has been won (and we have validated the win) it will be reset.
In a pattern game the jackpot can only be claimed by a coverall win within the stipulated ball count. Patterns which are not coverall will not result in a jackpot win.
For these jackpots only, winnings will not automatically be credited to your account. From time to time, Betfair may offer special progressive jackpot promotions.

Some progressive jackpots are setup as ‘Community Jackpots’ meaning a % of the jackpot is paid to the player/s who trigger the jackpot and the remaining % is paid to other players who have bought tickets in the winning game of bingo. The split may be paid proportionally or equally depending on the jackpot and the player/s whose ticket triggers the jackpot will also receive a proportion of the community pot either an equal share or proportionate based on the number of tickets they have purchased in proportion to the total number of tickets in the game.
Please note that some progressive jackpots are networked meaning they are available in lots of different bingo rooms. Only the game in which the jackpot was triggered will pay the community jackpot.

Progressive Side Games
Side Games with progressive jackpots will increment once a day around midnight and will go up based on an amount contributed by the operator and not based on stakes within the game. For further details please refer to the mini games help section for specific game rules.
