J. Lo’s mom hits jackpot in Atlantic City
Jennifer Lopez’s mother won a $2.4 million jackpot while playing $1 slots at Atlantic City.
Guadalupe Lopez, 58, of New York, was playing Wheel of Fortune at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa when she hit for $2,421,291.76 just before 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the casino.
Casino spokesman Michael Facenda denied knowing of any relationship between the jackpot winner and pop celebrity Jennifer Lopez. But Us Weekly and People magazine report in upcoming issues that Guadalupe Lopez is Jennifer’s mother.
Jennifer Lopez’s publicist, Rob Shuter, declined to comment Monday night.
Us Weekly reports that Guadalupe Lopez plans to use a portion of her winnings to start a $100,000 college fund for her two grandchildren.

It’s not even enough to buy the pink-diamond engagement ring Ben Affleck gave Jennifer Lopez, but Guadalupe Lopez, the Latina lovely’s mother, won enough money in Atlantic City, New Jersey, last weekend to make most mere mortals happy for a long, long time.
Mama Lopez, 58, won a $2.4 million jackpot while playing $1 slot machines. Well, to be precise, she won $2,421,291.76.
Lady luck visited mama Lopez, a retired Bronx kindergarten teacher, while she was playing the Wheel of Fortune at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, just before 8 p.m. on Saturday, according to the casino.
While hotel officials would not confirm the link between Guadalupe and Jennifer, both Us Weekly and People have reported that the pop star’s mother was indeed the lucky winner of the jackpot.
And according to Us, Guadalupe plans to use a portion of her winnings to start a $100,000 college fund for her two grandchildren. (Nope, those aren’t secret love children of J.Lo or her entertainment journalist sister Lynda. The kids belong to housewife Leslie, the third sister.)
Mrs. Lopez isn’t the frivolous type, according to sources quoted in New York’s Daily News. They say that despite the rocks–you know, the sparkly kind–Guadalupe really is just a mama from the block.
Meanwhile, Jenny, who frowned on ex Ben Affleck’s affinity for gambling, could probably pay for her entire family to go to college several times over.
At last report, the multi-hyphenate superstar was pulling down $10 million per movie–and she currently has at least three in the pipeline: Shall We Dance?, opposite Richard Gere, is slated for an Aug. 6 release; Lasse Hallström’s drama An Unfinished Life is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 24; and, finally, the romantic comedy Monster-in-Law, costarring Jane Fonda, is expected to hit in 2005.
The former Fly Girl has also signed a first-look TV-development deal with Fox TV Studios and Regency TV.
