## 5 Fun Methods to Find Lucky Numbers for the Lottery

A popular way to pick lottery numbers is to use numbers that feel lucky to you. Many people find this more fun and satisfying than just letting a computer quick pick your numbers.

If you don’t already have numbers that resonate with you, here are five ways to find lucky numbers for the lottery (or for any other use).

### Go With Traditional Lucky Numbers

In many places in the world, the chances are that when you think about lucky numbers, the first one that jumps into your head is the number seven. According to a poll run by mathematician Alex Bellos, seven is the most popular lucky number in the world.

Given its popularity, maybe it’s no surprise that there are seven days of the week, seven wonders of the world, seven continents, seven seas, and many important ways that the number seven is used.

Other traditional lucky numbers include three (as in “good things come in threes”) and four.

Remember that there’s a disadvantage to using traditional lucky numbers as your lottery numbers: a lot of other people will be using them, too. That means that if your numbers do win, your chances of having to split the jackpot are high.

### Play Your Personal Lucky Numbers

Another way to play your lottery ticket is to go with numbers that have a personal meaning for you. For example, your lucky number might be your birthday, your wedding anniversary, or the birthdays of your kids and/or grandkids.

Dates aren’t the only numbers with personal meanings, though. You might also consider whether the number of kids you have or the house number of your childhood home feel lucky to you.

When it comes to picking lottery numbers, dates have a similar problem as popular numbers: many people play them. On the other hand, dates often show up among the most popular lottery numbers, so it might make sense to play them, anyway.

### Use Numerology to Pick Lucky Numbers

Numerology is the belief that numbers resonate in a way that gives them spiritual properties. By decoding these resonations, you can pick lucky numbers and even lucky days for playing the lottery and for other purposes.

There are a lot of different ways to use numerology to find lucky numbers. One of these is to create a table with the numbers 1 – 9 at the top and one letter in each column below. So A = 1, B = 2, and so on. After the ninth letter, I, you’d wrap around again so that J = 1, K = 2, and so on.

You can then plug in the letters of your name to get one digit for each letter. Add those digits together to end up with a lucky number. You can do this for your first and last name, or for the consonants or the vowels in your name.

If you prefer, you could also take the names of loved ones, phrases from your favorite books, or whatever else resonates.

Play around until you find a combination that feels lucky to you.

### Horoscopes: Lucky Numbers for Today

If you’d like to find lucky numbers without having to play around with numbers yourself, your daily horoscope is a good place to turn.

Many horoscopes include predictions of which days will be lucky for you (and you can try playing the lottery on those days). They also include a list of lucky numbers for the day, week, or month.

### Lucky Number Generators

The simplest way to find lucky numbers to play is simply to use a generator. Lucky number generators use numerology, or perhaps simply randomness, to find numbers for you.

If you’d like to give a lucky number generator a try, here are a few to pick from:

• Formology
• Lottery Pros

Sometimes, it’s fun to let your subconscious do the work. If you want to let your intuition pick your lucky numbers for you, try finding a quiet place to sit with a pencil and some paper. Close your eyes, clear your mind, and take some deep breaths.

Then let one number after another come to mind, and write them down without judgment. When you have enough, check them out and see what you think. If you don’t like any of the numbers, try again until you get a set you like.

### A Warning About Lottery Strategies

Finding and playing lucky numbers can be a lot of fun. However, remember that like all lottery systems, they don’t really give you an edge in winning a jackpot.

Mathematically, every number has an equal chance of being chosen as a winner. Past performance does not affect future performance. These tips are meant for entertainment purposes. Have fun with them, and never gamble more money than you can afford to lose!

## What are the ‘luckiest’ Powerball numbers to play for tonight’s drawing?

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Looking for a “lucky number” for tonight’s huge \$334 million dollar Powerball jackpot?

Technically, there is no such thing. Each time a Powerball drawing is held, each number has the same odds of being drawn as it did in the previous drawings.

But many still believe in “hot” or “lucky” numbers. So, for those players, there is this.

According to Powerball.com records, the most frequently drawn Powerball number for the past 14 years is the number 20. It’s also the second most popular white ball number drawn right after 26. The numbers 32, 16, and 42 round out the top five most popular white ball numbers.

Regardless of whether you use those numbers, your birthday, age, jersey number, or simply choose a “Quick Pick” allowing the computer to choose the numbers for you, the odds are the same – 1 in 292 million.

Those odds used to be 1 in 175 million but a recent change in the Powerball structure put it more in line with the state’s other big game Mega Millions (1 in 259 million).

On Oct. 7, 2015, the Powerball Lottery altered the number of red and white balls to try and increase the number of secondary prize winners while making it harder to win the top prize.

The updated version uses 69 white balls, up from 59, while decreasing the number of red balls to 26, down from 35. The winner must match all five white balls drawn as well as the red ball to win the jackpot. While harder to win the top prize, the odds of winning any prize improve to 1 in 25 instead of 1 in 32.

Plus, the Power Play option which is available as an add-on for \$1 per play, can now multiply secondary prizes up to 10 times. \$1 million dollar winners who utilize the Power Play option will still be capped at \$2 million.

Tonight’s jackpot isn’t the biggest as the largest Powerball prize of \$590.5 million was won May 18, 2013, by players in Florida.

The jackpot’s total has been climbing since the last grand prize was on Nov. 4, 2015 when a winning ticket for a \$144 million prize was sold in Tennessee .

The \$334 million prize is close to the biggest jackpot ever won in Michigan which was on Aug. 15, 2012, when Donald Lawson of Lapeer, won a \$337 million Powerball payout.

More recently, Julie Leach of Three Rivers won a \$310 million Powerball jackpot just last year.

And if you put stock in location over numbers, you may want to take a road trip to Pennsylvania. That state holds the lead for most jackpot winning tickets sold with 16. A shorter trip to Indiana, which has 11 jackpot winners, might work too.

Powerball is offered in 44 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tickets cost \$2 each. The drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Deadline to purchase tickets is 9:45 p.m.
