SAN JOSE, CA — The 7-Eleven store on Alum Rock Avenue in San Jose has changed a lucky man’s life in a big way, selling a winning lottery ticket worth $1.4 million with change. Mum’s the word on the identity of the man.
For Tuesday night’s drawing, the Mega Millions winner grabbed all five numbers: 1, 4, 23, 40 and 45 — without the hitting the Mega No. 11, the California Lottery reported.
“It’s really exciting,” 7-Eleven manager Navi told Patch.
The public might think the store would see an uptick in business from the news, but the manager doesn’t think word has gotten out yet. The store has seen normal traffic, which is usually busy for a 7-Eleven.
“Most people don’t know about it,” she said. “Maybe in the coming days.”
A ticket buyer in the granite state of New Hampshire got all six numbers in the full $168 million Mega Millions prize.
Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday at 8 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Five white balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70; one gold Mega Ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 25.
A winner will be drawn if the numbers on one row of a ticket matches the numbers of the balls drawn on that date. There are nine ways to win a prize, from $2 to the jackpot. If no one wins the jackpot, the money is added to the jackpot for the next drawing. Overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 24.
