N.J. Lottery machines down sporadically today

New Jersey Lottery players vying for tonight’s $105 million annuity Mega Millions jackpot were turned away from retailers during their lunch hour today when a communications network glitch shut down lottery machines statewide.

A Belvidere shop says players took the glitch in stride and said they’d come back. In Phillipsburg, Towne Market owner Sal Cassar said it was a shame people had to pay for the gas to come out twice, especially his customers from Pennsylvania.

A Lottery spokesman says the glitch was fixed entirely by mid-afternoon, but Cassar said his machine went out again at about 5 o’clock. The Lottery spokesman, Dominick DeMarco, recommended customers call their retailers before they head out to buy tickets.
