Powerball Millionaire – New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

The First Powerball Millionaire of the Year promotion is a special competition which culminates with one lucky player winning $1 million just after midnight on New Year’s Day. The first such promotion took place on New Year’s Eve in 2020 and saw a winner from Maine become Powerball’s first millionaire of the year.

The 2021 First Powerball Millionaire promotion has now launched and will see players from 26 states vying for the chance to win $1 million during this year’s edition of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in New York.

Could you be the first Powerball Millionaire of 2021?

First Powerball Millionaire of the Year

The New Year’s Eve promotion is jointly organized by Powerball and Dick Clark Productions. The competition will run August through October and each participating state will have its own launch date and deadline for entries.

In alphabetical order, the full list of 26 participating states are as follows: Arizona, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont.

The exact rules of entry will vary between states but will generally require you to submit your non-winning Powerball tickets for entry into a ‘second chance’ draw. There will be prizes on offer for winners at that stage and then each winner will be entered into a national draw conducted by the Multi-State Lottery Association.

The five winners of that drawing will be the finalists of this year’s First Powerball Millionaire of the Year. They will each receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York to attend Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and will be in with a chance of winning $1 million.

Contact your state lottery for full details of how to enter the First Powerball Millionaire of the Year promotion, including the deadline for entries.

The five finalists of this year’s First Powerball Millionaire of the Year promotion will be able to take one guest on an all-expenses paid trip to New York to ring in the New Year in Times Square. The prize includes airfares, three nights in New York, transport, and $1,000 in spending money.

The holiday will conclude with the ultimate New Year’s Eve experience. The five finalists will attend the live broadcast of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and one of them will be selected as the winner of $1 million just after midnight.

Given the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, organizers have also provided an alternative prize for winners who would prefer to stay at home rather than attend the live event. They will receive the ultimate New Year’s Eve party package, which will include $12,500 in cash, a 70-inch TV, and a home theater system. They will still be in the running to win the $1 million prize, as they will be able to take part in the draw remotely.

Previous First Powerball Millionaire Promotions

The First Powerball Millionaire of the Year promotion ran for the first time in 2020 in 25 participating jurisdictions. More than 300 lucky players each won a luxury trip to New York and five of those were selected as the finalists who would be in with a chance of winning $1 million.

The package included luxury accommodation in Times Square for three nights from December 29 to January 1 for each winner and a guest, along with a welcome reception at the Edison Ballroom, two theater tickets, a holiday cruise on the Hudson and much more.

The winner of the $1 million prize and Powerball’s first millionaire of 2020 was Blaine Marston from Passadumkeag in Maine. He was revealed as the winner live on-air during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve by country singer Jessie James Decker.

A delighted Marston described the feeling as ‘unreal’ and Powerball Product Group Chairman Gregg Mineo also saluted the event as an ‘exciting night in Powerball history.’ The $1 million prize was paid as a lump sum and there was not an option for an annuity.
