The estimated jackpot is $429.6 million. The lump sum payment before taxes will be more than $269 million.

The jackpot has been creeping up since March 2, when there was one winning ticket for the $292 million jackpot. In January, Powerball gave away a $1.58 billion jackpot, the largest lottery prize ever.

Connecticut is poised to come down with another case of Powerball fever.
Nobody hit it big in the Powerball drawing Wednesday, which means the payout is going to get richer.
For the drawing Saturday, May 7, the Powerball jackpot is expected to be in the area of $415 million.
- Remember to come back to Patch for the winning numbers as soon as they are drawn around 11 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
Earlier this year, the Powerball jackpot climbed up to $1.6 billion, the highest it’s ever been. Three people from California, Tennessee and Florida ended up cashing in on the jackpot.
The January 13 drawing captured the attention of millions around the country and made national news. When the winner was announced a huge crowd flocked to the Chino Hills, California, 7-Eleven where one of the winning tickets was sold.
Saturday’s estimated $415 million jackpot, with a cash lump sum option of $269.7 million, is now the seventh largest jackpot in Powerball history, the Connecticut Lottery said in a statement.
As consumers have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Powerball jackpot, the CT Lottery reminds customers to play responsibly.
“We encourage people to use their ‘GameSense,’ or common sense, when gambling,” said CT Lottery’s President and CEO, Anne M. Noble in a statement. “When jackpots reach levels in the hundreds of millions of dollars, it is important that consumers use good judgment and remember ‘don’t chase your losses,’ ‘know when to take a break’ and ‘please play responsibly.’ It only takes one ticket to win.”
So how does Powerball work?
Tickets are sold for $2 in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The jackpot starts at $40 million and increases after each drawing if there isn’t a winner.
The record jackpot went from $355 million to $1.6 billion in three drawings.
Players pick five numbers from one to 69 and a sixth Powerball number, one through 26. (Most people just choose to get random numbers.) There are various levels of payouts, but to win the ultimate jackpot, you have to match all five numbers plus the Powerball.
The odds of that happening? Just 1 in 292,201,338. In other words, don’t cash out your kids’ college fund to buy tickets.
