(NECN: Lauren Collins) – 12.5 million dollars is the largest prize ever given to any one player in the history of the Tri-State Megabucks. Today, the Vermont man who bought the winning ticket came forward.

Frank Sullivan now carries two items in his back pocket. A stick of lip balm for “people that want money. They gotta kiss up a little bit more. and that’s the black book for the marriage proposals.”
Sullivan is not the first in his family to strike it rich – two of his cousins are past lottery winners – but Wednesday brought his turn to collect the check.
The $12.5 million jackpot is the largest single payout in the 25 year history of the Tri-State Megabucks Plus. Sullivan bought the ticket at Top of the Hill in Dalton, New Hampshire – his newly dubbed lucky store.
“It was an easy pick,” Sullivan says of the winning ticket. “I bought three Powerballs and one Megabucks.”
Donna Whiting sold him the ticket. “Knowing that I sold the one of those tickets, but to know that I sold it to someone I knew personally for years, and someone I knew deserved it, so it was really nice,” she says.
Sullivan lives just down the street from the store in Gilman, Vermont, which means he’ll have to pay taxes on his prize in two states. And since he chose the lump sum payment – the 52 year old will only take home about five million dollars. More than enough move out of his mobile home, travel, and retire from his job at a local electronics company.
“I got until next Friday, is my last day,” he says. “Gave my two weeks notice.”
Sullivan’s friends at Top of the Hill get a $30 thousand pay out which store owner Bob Richard says, “is going to help out our cash flow. And having been here 13 years, it’s nice to know that maybe I don’t have to be here another 13.”
But little else expected to change — except maybe the spirits — in this quiet part of northern New England.
“I’m gonna probably stay the same way I am right now,’ smiles Sullivan, fresh tickets in hand for Wednesday night’s drawing.
